Lucy, Rockwell & Le Roar

New Mom Lucy Liu Launches Le Roar

That sweet and stunning portrait Lucy Liu posted last week to introduce her son Rockwell Lloyd to the world? Yes, it was rightfully focused on the blissful new mom and baby, but did you notice the adorable dog fabric that’s swaddling the newborn and providing the beautifully-lit backdrop? That happens to be the result of another offscreen endeavor the actress recently gave birth to — a prestige line of pet products called Le Roar.

In fact, before the surprise appearance of Rockwell, a dog named Apple reigned supreme as the only apple of the Elementary actress’ eye. One peek at her active Instagram account and its multitude of adorable fur-kid photos and videos will tell you that Liu’s a totally devoted pet parent — and one peek at DoggieNames.com’s Facebook page will tell you that they’re two of our all-time faves as well. Just the day before her son’s birth, the Charlie’s Angels star posted a video of the brown Lab enjoying a Le Roar squeaky toy in celebration of National Dog Day.

And just the week before that, Liu announced the official launch of Le Roar, which offers a U.S.-manufactured line of towels, beds, aprons and toys.  In a recent email interview, she shared that the goal with Le Roar was to create a line “with an emphasis on style, sustainability and safety.” The style part comes easily to Liu and her co-founder Ellen Stockbridge, a costumer Liu met on the set of her CBS series.

Lucy Liu & Ellen Stockbridge

Liu’s always been a fashion trendsetter (who could forget her delicious guest shot as the true owner of the famous Birkin bag in Sex and the City?) and her red-carpet choices have landed her on a host of prestigious best-dressed lists over the years.

But here’s a couple other things you might not know about our favorite dog mom — she’s got a thriving career as a director (her episode of the USA Network series Graceland happened to air the same day Rockwell was born), and she’s an accomplished artist, whose paintings, collages and other works have been shown at prestigious galleries and in exhibitions in New York, L.A., London and even on her character Joan Watson’s apartment walls. The woman definitely knows her design.

But beyond their shared love of fashion and art, Stockbridge and Liu bonded over their affection for their dogs – Apple often watches her mom at work on the Elementary set — so Le Roar was a logical next step.

The women designed the “Le Silhouette” pattern together, “and included as many different dogs as possible to make it inclusive. We wanted something simple and attractive that supported the Le Roar aesthetic,” Liu says of the clean, modern motif that appears on the whimsically named Le Bed, Le Apron and Le Squeaky Toy.

The pair definitely did something right — the line is so fashion-forward that none other than Barney’s New York has teamed up with them to sell their beds and towels, which are also set to be featured in an upcoming pet-centered edition of Oprah magazine.

And since my friends call me Doggienista, I, of course, had to be among the first to have Le Towel. It was easy to order, came in a couple days, and even included a nice note from the creators. It’s gorgeous, held its color after a wash and most importantly — it has Daisy Jo and Bud Earl’s seal of approval, though (as you’ll see below) my baby Bud felt the need to cover up the cat portion of the design.

A longtime UNICEF Ambassador, Liu says Le Roar will definitely be supporting animal charities, though they haven’t yet settled on one specific organization. LeRoar’s very first appearance at a benefit, though, is scheduled for September 13th at the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue’s Fall Festival in Brooklyn, NY.

So yes, our girl definitely has her hands full with Le Roar, her day job on Elementary, her side gig as a director, her charity work — and most importantly, her thriving new career as one of coolest celeb moms in the world — but there’s no doubt she’ll conquer it all with class and style. Vive Le Roar et La Liu!

Fox’s The Following Star Shawn Ashmore & Friend Faith

Shawn Ashmore is but one degree away from Kevin Bacon, co-starring with him on Fox’s hit drama The Following, which just returned for its second season. He plays one of the good guys — so far, though you never know — and you also might recognize him as The Iceman from the X-Men movies. But doesn’t this pic of him with his little dog Faith just melt your heart?

R.I.P. Emma Jane — Jaclyn Smith’s Beautiful Remembrance

Jaclyn Smith, Doggienista’s all-time favorite Celebrity Dog Mom, posted this picture, along with her lovely and heartfelt remembrance of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Emma Jane, on her Facebook page yesterday…

“Sweet Emma Jane, you came into this world with the gentlest heart. Your paws tread softly. You held no grudge you lived only in peace. You have left a world behind that will miss you. There will be a quiet, but discernible void. Until we meet again, run happily in God’s Garden and never forget the place you keep in our hearts.”

Adam Levine Introduces Charlie on The Voice

First, it was Cee Lo and Purrfect (who isn’t really the singer’s cat, btw) getting airtime on NBC’s The Voice, and then Adam Levine got into the act last night by introducing the world to Charlie, his pretty dang cute Golden Retriever puppy. Levine and his fiance Behati Prinsloo are also pet parents to a Goldendoodle named Bones.  Some pics he tweeted of his fur kids…

Marilyn Monroe’s Mafia Dog

How’s this for a Hollywood “tail?” — apparently, Frank Sinatra gave Marilyn Monroe a Maltese to comfort the superstar after her split from husband Arthur Miller… and Marilyn named it Maf to jokingly honor Ol’ Blue Eyes alleged Mafia connections.

Einstein and Clooney

Another Reason to Love George Clooney — Rescue Dog Named Einstein

Actor / producer George Clooney gives his fans yet another reason to swoon over and/or admire him. In an issue of Esquire magazine, Clooney introduces the world to Einstein, a Cocker Spaniel mix he rescued a year-and-a-half ago.

Clooney then relates this lovable story:

“I was looking for a dog because I hadn’t had one for a while — and I wanted one that was house-trained. I’m just terrible at house-training dogs.

So I go online and see Einstein. They had a whole film about him. It was actually really sweet. You see him all beat up and shit in the shelter, and they show how they cleaned him up. God, I love this dog. So I called and said, “I like Einstein!”

The woman goes, “Well, we don’t know if Einstein will like you.”

“Well, can I meet with Einstein?”

“Yes, we’ll bring him to your house, but if he doesn’t like you, he can’t stay. We have to have good homes for these dogs.” She sounded very serious.

Okay. I have this really long driveway, and I open the gate for them, and I start to panic that Einstein is not going to like me. So I run into the kitchen, where I have these turkey meatballs, and I rub them all over my shoes.

This woman opens the door, and who knew Einstein was such a food whore on top of everything? He throws himself at my feet.

She says, “I’ve never seen him react like that, ever!” And she left him with me on the spot. And forever, now, he just thinks of me as the guy with meatball feet. He loves me. I can do no wrong. He follows me everywhere.”

Jennifer Aniston Picks Most Popular Dog Name

The lovely and talented Jennifer Aniston visited both the Ellen show and The Tonight Show last week and revealed that she and her current boyfriend, Justin Theroux, had recently adopted a pit bull mix from a shelter (yay!), and named the lucky pup Sophie, currently ranked No. 8 on PetBabyNames.com’s Most Popular Dog Names list.

But she had a doggone good reason. “I was almost walking out with three puppies. That’s why we named her Sophie cause it was Sophie’s choice. I was crying — it was so hard!”  We know the feeling — we want to rescue all the pets when we visit a shelter. But giving just one dog or cat a loving home is still saving a life and making a big difference.

Sophie joins sister Dolly, Jennifer’s German Shepherd, in their pack. Sadly, Jennifer had to say goodbye to best pal Norman last year.

Taylor Swift and Cat Meredith: Cutest Celeb Cat Video

So if it weren’t annoying enough that Taylor Swift is pretty and talented, she also has to be funny and smart AND have a cat with those same attributes?  In this YouTube clip she posted, she has a serious conversation with her Scottish Fold cat Meredith about how voting for the Academy of Country Music “Entertainer of the Year” Award voting works.

50 Cent Loves Oprah — His Dog

Rapper/actor 50 Cent appeared on ABC’s The View this week and explained the origins of the name Oprah Winfree, the moniker he gave to his adorable Miniature Schnauzer mix. Host Sherri Shepherd wondered if the name meant he was calling the original Oprah a bitch or rather that he loved Oprah so much that he named his dog after her. Turned out it was the former. “I thought Oprah didn’t like hip-hop culture,” he admitted.

Meanwhile, though, the spunky little Ms. Winfree has her own Twitter account @OprahTheDog, with more than 12,000 followers. And the voice, provided by 50 himself, is pretty hilarious, though filled with expletives. Here’s the cleanest post we could find, attached to this pic: “I’m pissed! These fools dressed me up!” LMTO!
