The Clooneys Rescue Another Pup — Millie Joins Einstein & Louie

As if the world needed more reason to admire celebrity supercouple George Clooney and activist-attorney Amal Alamuddin Clooney, they go and do something amazing like adopting yet another older dog into their growing canine family.

The Clooneys recently became the proud pet parents to basset hound Millie, who they rescued from California’s San Gabriel Valley Humane Society after seeing her picture on Petfinder. And they made it just in time for November’s Adopt a Senior Pet Month!

Staunch proponents of rescuing older dogs, the couple welcomes four-year-old Millie into their pack with two older cocker spaniels, Louie and 10-year-old Einstein (who spends most of his time at the pair’s Italian retreat).

The humane society’s website posted the above pic of the family’s happy “gotcha day.” Mazel tov!

Cecily Strong & Lucy

SNL’s Cecily Strong and Fur Kid Lucille “Poop Feet” Strong

Comedian and star of Saturday Night Live Cecily Strong made news herself this weekend as hostess with the mostess of the famed White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, DC.

But we know her better as a dedicated dog mom, who adopted her spaniel mix Lucy in March of 2014. Since then, Lucy has made numerous adorable appearances on Strong’s Instagram page.

Here’s how Strong announced her new famiily member: “I went to visit best Friends Animal shelter in LA yesterday. I was thinking about maybe adopting. I met so many cool dogs but just wasn’t sure. Then, at the end of the day, a little beauty walked in with poop covering her feet and I fell in love. World, please meet my little Lucille Poop Feet Strong.”

Since then, Strong has also been a strong supporter of Best Friends, the wonderful no-kill rescue that runs that L.A. shelter, along with a massive ranch in Utah.

Debra Messing’s Best Pal Henry

Debra Messing, of NBC TV’s The Mysteries of Laura, has a pretty cute assistant in her entourage. Henry joined her family last February as a wee pup, and is now all grown up and looks to be loving his life. Here’s a pic of the day she brought Henry home and a more current shot, spreading smiles on the set, from her WhoSay page.

Dirty Jobs Host Mike Rowe Plays “Puppy Poop” Name Bingo

As reported at WhoSay, Dirty Jobs host and TV pitchman Mike Rowe rescued a really cute terrier puppy, but couldn’t decide what to call him. Of course, he shoulda come right to DoggieNames.com. ;) But anyway, he finally managed to pick by playing a new game called “Puppy Poop Bingo.” Yep, he wrote the top six names on a piddle pad and waited for the dog himself to decide. Genius! And kinda appropriate for the Dirty Jobs guy.

Westminster Dog Names!

Night one  at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is in the books and we heard some excellent call names — including Rufus, Toodles and Swagger — but the dogs moving into the Best in Show finals tonight include a bloodhound named Nathan, a Cardigan Welsh Corgi called Coco Posh (Like!), Allie the Standard Poodle and the favorite, a MinPin named Classy (also Like!).

But the big news is that the first ever agility competition for mixed breeds at the storied show was won by 6-and-a-half year-old husky mix Roo — very fitting, since she can jump like a kangaroo. Not surprisingly, the winner on the purebred side was a border collie named Kelso.

Lindsay Vonn & #BumKneeBuddy: Injured Olympic Skier Adopts Leo

2010 Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Vonn was looking forward to defending her downhill-skiing title in Sochi, before re-injuring her right knee this past December. But she got herself a really awesome consolation prize, as she told fans on her Facebook page:

“This definitely brightened my day – I adopted this 9-month-old cutie from an animal shelter. He has a bad knee from being hit by a car when he was a puppy and no one wanted him … but I do!! I encourage anyone looking for an animal to adopt from a shelter and save a life! #bumkneebuddies,” she wrote. Amen, sister!

Marilyn Monroe’s Mafia Dog

How’s this for a Hollywood “tail?” — apparently, Frank Sinatra gave Marilyn Monroe a Maltese to comfort the superstar after her split from husband Arthur Miller… and Marilyn named it Maf to jokingly honor Ol’ Blue Eyes alleged Mafia connections.

Jennifer Aniston Picks Most Popular Dog Name

The lovely and talented Jennifer Aniston visited both the Ellen show and The Tonight Show last week and revealed that she and her current boyfriend, Justin Theroux, had recently adopted a pit bull mix from a shelter (yay!), and named the lucky pup Sophie, currently ranked No. 8 on PetBabyNames.com’s Most Popular Dog Names list.

But she had a doggone good reason. “I was almost walking out with three puppies. That’s why we named her Sophie cause it was Sophie’s choice. I was crying — it was so hard!”  We know the feeling — we want to rescue all the pets when we visit a shelter. But giving just one dog or cat a loving home is still saving a life and making a big difference.

Sophie joins sister Dolly, Jennifer’s German Shepherd, in their pack. Sadly, Jennifer had to say goodbye to best pal Norman last year.
